What happened

McCook's and Stoneman's columns did not meet. Stoneman reached Macon on the 30th, sent part of the 14th Illinois Cavalry to wreck the railroad east of it, and was turned back by Georgia militia. On the 31st, brought to bay at Sunshine Church by Iverson's 1,300 cavalry, he let two brigades escape and surrendered with about 600 men, his guns and train; Sherman wrote that the raid 'is not deemed a success'. The point shown is the raid marker in Decatur, not the fight.
