What happened

The Army of the Tennessee marched out the old Lick Skillet road and camped on and near the Wilson plantation, with Logan's headquarters at Judge William A. Wilson's house; the IV, XIV and XXIII Corps took other roads. At noon Confederate cavalry, thinking the Federals were retreating, began attacking Ireland's brigade and Bundy's 13th New York Battery in their works at Pace's Ferry, and gave up after repeated failures.
