What happened

Hardee's corps hastily built and occupied a line from East Point to Morrow's and Thames' mills, turning east to the Macon railroad near Rough and Ready, where Hardee had his command post. That night Hardee's three divisions (Maney, Cleburne, Brown) and S.D. Lee's corps marched to Jonesboro to meet Howard's advance.
