Special Field Orders No. 120 (off the map)
What happened
At Kingston Sherman issued the marching orders for Georgia. The army was 'divided into two wings': the Right Wing under Howard (XV and XVII Corps) and the Left Wing under Slocum (XIV and XX Corps). Sherman had proposed the march by telegraph over the autumn ('I can make the march, and make Georgia howl,' Allatoona, Oct 9) and waited until after the Nov 8 election.
