The unauthorized burning begins

What happened

On the night of Nov 11, Union soldiers milling about town began to set fire to private buildings, especially houses, days before the ordered destruction. The 2011 GHS marker dates Poe's first demolitions to the same day, a day earlier than the NGE account.
