Army of the Ohio camps at Decatur
Schofield's Army of the Ohio (XXIII Corps) camped at Decatur during the occupation of Atlanta.
The record
Sherman's report places 'that of the Ohio at Decatur' after the city fell. The town had already seen McPherson's army in July, the fight for the wagon trains on July 22, and Stoneman's and Kilpatrick's raids. Downtown Decatur is built over and largely public or private developed land.
