The record

The GHS marker says the 1847 charter put the eastern terminus 'at a convenient point on the Macon & Western RR between the City of Griffin and the Town of Atlanta,' a spot marked by a bronze disk in a short concrete post; East Point's 1887 charter measured the town from it. Wikipedia says construction began in 1849-50, the line was completed in May 1854 and renamed the Atlanta & West Point in 1857. NGE says the Atlanta & LaGrange entered Atlanta in 1854. East Point was not incorporated until 1887.
