Cobb's Mill
A gristmill on the east side of Intrenchment Creek, run by DeKalb pioneer William Cobb.
The record
Hardee's Confederate corps halted here at dawn on July 22, 1864, after a night march out of Atlanta on the McDonough and Fayetteville roads, and took Cobb and his miller, Case Turner, as guides for the attack that began the Battle of Atlanta (GHS). The 'Hardee at Wm Cobb's House' marker adds that Cobb rode with Cleburne and Maney and Turner with Walker and Bate, but that the account rests solely on Turner's later statements. The markers give no founding date for the mill.
Today: Intrenchment Creek in south Atlanta/DeKalb.
