Decatur Cemetery
The oldest known publicly owned burial ground in metro Atlanta, believed to have been in use before Decatur's incorporation in 1823.
The record
The historical marker and Wikipedia say its first written record is an 1832 act creating 'Commissioners for the Decatur Burial Ground.' The oldest section, about eight acres, is known as the Old Cemetery; the grounds were landscaped in 1881 and now cover about 54-58 acres with more than 20,000 graves. It was listed on the National Register in 1997.
