Howell's Mills (1852)
Judge Clark Howell (1811-1882) built a gristmill and a sash sawmill on the north bank of Peachtree Creek in 1852. They survived the war and burned in 1879.
The record
The GHS marker places the two mill buildings in a bend of the creek about 1,000 feet west of today's bridge; the old road crossed on a wooden bridge west of the present highway. The mills were the center of a rural community with a post office (1876-1891), and Foster's Woolen Mill stood on the south bank about 1880. Another GHS marker identifies Howell Mill Road as the old Atlanta-Pace's Ferry road.
Today: Howell Mill Rd at Peachtree Creek.
