The record

Wikipedia says the Monroe Railroad and Banking Company opened in 1838, was bought in foreclosure and renamed in 1845, and added 21 miles to reach Atlanta in 1846. Its 1867 station list includes East Point (7 miles from Atlanta) and Rough and Ready (13 miles, now Mountain View). John Thrasher's Thrasherville camp grew up around his contract for the Monroe Railroad's embankment toward the W&A (GHS). NGE says that by 1846 two railroads had converged with the W&A in the center of town.

Today: The Norfolk Southern/MARTA south corridor toward East Point.

Where on the map: Downtown southwest past West End to East Point, then south through Hapeville and Rough and Ready (Mountain View) toward Jonesboro and Macon.
