Montgomery family cemetery
The family burial ground of James McC. Montgomery (1770-1842), probably the first white man to settle permanently in what is now Fulton County.
The record
The 1961 GHS marker calls it one of the oldest authentic landmarks in the area. Montgomery served under Lt. George Gilmer at Fort Peachtree in 1813-14, settled nearby about 1820 and farmed both banks of the river, the west bank then in the Cherokee Nation. He was authorized on December 25, 1837, to run a ferry at Standing Peachtree (Bolton).
