The record

The GHS Sandtown marker says the trail ran west to the Coosa River in Alabama and east into what is now DeKalb County; a 1970 UDC marker in Tallapoosa says it linked the Sandtown on the Chattahoochee with another Sandtown in Tallapoosa County, Ala., and later became the Old Alabama Road and a stagecoach route. The DeKalb History Center describes it running from Stone Mountain through Decatur along today's Decatur Street to Five Points, a corridor the Georgia Railroad later used. An online compilation of John H. Goff's 1966 article traces it along Rockbridge Road to Decatur, then along today's MARTA East Line to Five Points and southwest on the high ground between Utoy and Camp creeks, including parts of Trinity Avenue, Peters Street and Cascade Road, to Buzzard Roost.

Today: Its general course is followed by roads, the CSX/MARTA corridor and Cascade Rd.

Where on the map: Rockbridge Rd (east of Decatur) to the Decatur square; the Georgia Railroad/MARTA East Line corridor and Decatur St to Five Points; Trinity Ave west of Forsyth St; Peters St; Cascade Rd along the Utoy-Camp Creek divide; to the Chattahoochee at Sandtown and Buzzard Roost, just southwest of the map.
