The record

The 2015 National Register nomination says eleven members formed the church about 1.5 miles east of here and that the cemetery occupies parts of Land Lots 168 and 169, drawn in the 1821 lottery. Church records show African Americans joining as early as 1827, and there may be unmarked slave and post-bellum African American burials along the west side of the cemetery. Dr. Joshua Gilbert, Atlanta's first physician, is buried here (GHS). The church served as a Confederate hospital in 1864.
