The record

Atlanta Housing's own history says white families occupied Techwood, Clark Howell, Capitol and Harris Homes, while University, John Hope, Grady, Eagan and Herndon Homes housed Black families. A Digital Library of Georgia record likewise says Capitol Homes, completed in 1941, 'was initially segregated for white families'; Wikipedia's list of demolished projects, which says it was designed for Black families, is wrong. A 1940 Housing Authority photograph of the area before clearance is captioned 'colored houses', so Black residents lived on at least part of the land cleared for this white project. Capitol Homes was demolished in 2003 and replaced by Capitol Gateway, a HOPE VI mixed-income development of nearly 1,000 units.

Today: Capitol Gateway, a mixed-income development of about 1,000 units.
