Headwaters by the airport: Flint and South rivers

Near Hartsfield-Jackson, rivers bound for different seas begin a few miles apart: the Flint (to the Gulf) rises in East Point and runs under the runways, and the South River (to the Atlantic) comes into daylight just north of the airport, also in East Point.

The record

Wikipedia traces the Flint to seepage in a field bounded by Plant Street, Willingham Drive, Elm Street and Vesta Avenue in East Point, from which it passes under the airport's runways; the Finding the Flint initiative (American Rivers, The Conservation Fund and the Atlanta Regional Commission) works to restore its buried headwaters. The South River 'daylights just north of Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport, in the city of East Point' (Wikipedia). Krakow's Georgia Place-Names, by contrast, says the South River 'flows out of underground springs in downtown Atlanta,' so sources differ on where its head is.

Today: Airport, rail yards and East Point neighborhoods; both headwaters are largely piped.
