The record

The AJC's 'Actual Factual DeKalb' says the shoals at the GA 155 crossing were 'the hub of the Panola community,' and that Panola is a Choctaw word for cotton used by local Creeks, or may come from the 'Cotton Indian River,' a creek to the south. The South River Watershed Alliance runs paddle trips from a Panola Shoals launch, and DeKalb lists a Panola Shoals Trailhead. A USGS gauge (South River near Lithonia) is at the crossing.

Today: Panola Shoals trailhead and river launch.
