Proctor Creek's headwater springs
Springs under parking decks near Mercedes-Benz Stadium, at the western edge of the Gulch, have been traced as the source of Proctor Creek.
The record
Atlanta Magazine describes researcher Caroline Smith testing water that ran 'as loud as a faucet' for runoff and chlorine and confirming 'the springs at the source of Proctor Creek.' WABE describes the creek as starting in the Gulch area near the stadium, CNN Center and the World Congress Center, where rain now hits pavement and goes into sewers. A ThreadATL history says early Atlanta grew up near a 'Mineral Spring' at the head of Proctor Creek.
Today: Parking decks and streets west of downtown; the water runs in pipes.
