What happened

Hood assumed command. Hardee's corps took post along the Peachtree Creek crossings and Stevenson's division held the outer-line angle at N. Highland Ave. On the Federal side Howard's IV Corps entrenched at Buckhead and Hooker's XX Corps camped along the Pace's Ferry road. Far to the east, Logan's XV Corps stood at Browning's Court House (Tucker) while Garrard's cavalry seized the Georgia Railroad at Stone Mountain.
