IV Corps lines at Buckhead
Howard's IV Corps, the left wing of the Army of the Cumberland, dug in around the Buckhead crossroads on July 18 before forcing the Peachtree Creek crossings.
The record
Coming from Power's Ferry, the corps threw up entrenchments covering the roads east, south and west. It linked with the XX Corps on the Pace's Ferry road and with Schofield at Goodwin's. On July 19 Wood's and Newton's divisions marched south on Peachtree Rd to the creek, while Stanley went east by the old Cheshire Bridge Rd to fill the gap toward Schofield. Buckhead is now fully developed, so little of the camp ground is left undisturbed.
