Garrard returns from Covington

What happened

Garrard's division rode back into Decatur after almost 90 miles. It had destroyed four wagon bridges, two railroad bridges and more than six miles of track between Lithonia and the Alcovy, and at Covington burned the depot, a new army hospital complex, 2,000 bales of cotton and three trains. Its absence had left McPherson's flank open on the 22nd.
