What happened

About Aug. 1 the Confederates began a line from the main works at W. Fair and Ashby Sts southwest toward East Point, to shield the Macon and West Point railroads; it was later carried to Thames' Mill in Clayton County. It was built 'by both soldiers and impressed slave labor', and a section survives in Adams Park.
