The record

Stewart had come to follow up Lee's supposed success and found Lee's corps shattered. Walthall's division, with Reynolds's, O'Neal's (Cantey's) and Quarles's brigades, lost over a third of its men. With both Stewart and Loring down, Walthall held Loring's division in place and pulled his own back, and at 10 p.m. Hood withdrew the troops to Atlanta.
