Thomas's guns at the Peachtree Rd crossing

Thomas personally placed Ward's two batteries on the high ground north of the creek, and their canister broke Bate's attack down the Clear Creek bottoms.

The record

Bate's division swung through the swampy Clear Creek bottom around Newton's left, toward the Peachtree Rd bridge and the Federal rear. Bradley's brigade, massed along the road above the creek, met it with musketry, and the guns on the heights along today's Peachtree Hills Ave fired canister across the valley, shattering Bate's right. Canister balls and shell fragments from these guns should lie south and east, toward Clear Creek. The area is residential and parkland.
