Land Lot 104, 17th District
A 1956 state marker names a single land lot, a reminder that every 202.5-acre lot of the 1821 survey still carries its number. This one became part of George W. Collier's plantation, 'Collier's Woods.'
The record
The GHS marker says Land Lot 104 of the 17th District, long known as Collier's Woods, was part of the antebellum plantation of George W. Collier (1813-1903). The Clear Creek post office (1831-1839) was probably in this lot, named for the stream crossing it, and the old Montgomery Ferry Road ran through it. Deeds, tax parcels and the county GIS still identify property by district and land lot; Georgia's statewide land-lot dataset was built because assessors' legal descriptions reference the lottery survey.
Today: Ansley Park area, just east of Peachtree St; the marker stands on Peachtree.
