Moore's Mill (1854)
Thomas Moore (1828-1914) built a sash sawmill and a gristmill on Peachtree Creek in 1854, fed by a dam on Peachtree and Woodall creeks with a ford below it.
The record
The mills burned during 'a political upheaval' about 1858, were rebuilt and ran until 1901 (GHS). In 1864 the gristmill was supplying Confederate forces; Federal troops sent its caretaker north as a prisoner and damaged, but did not destroy, the property. Moores Mill Road keeps the name, and the GHS Standing Peach Tree marker says the old Peach Tree Trail ran along it.
Today: Moores Mill Rd at Peachtree Creek.
