Battle of Peachtree Creek

See it on the map All Civil War records

What happened

Hood's first attack caught Thomas's Army of the Cumberland just across the creek. Hardee's three divisions stepped off about 3:30 against Newton on Peachtree Rd; Stewart's corps followed about 4:00–4:30 against Ward's and Geary's XX Corps divisions around Collier's Mill and Williams's division at the Howell Mill Rd ravine. The attackers crossed Collier Rd, took the 33rd New Jersey's flag and briefly four of Geary's guns, but were repulsed everywhere.
