What happened

Sherman pulled out of the siege lines to swing south around the city; the shelling stopped. The XX Corps fell back to fortify the Chattahoochee crossings: Williams at the railroad bridge, Ward at Turner's Ferry and Geary at Pace's Ferry. The IV Corps left the Augustus Hurt house line.
