Pace's Ferry
Hardy Pace's ferry on the Chattahoochee, reached by the road from Decatur through Buckhead. It crossed about 50 feet upstream of today's Paces Ferry Road bridge.
The record
Marker 060-127: the ferry's founding date is unknown, but on May 5, 1834 the DeKalb Inferior Court ordered a bridge built across Nancy's Creek 'on the road to Pace's Ferry.' Pace came to the area in the 1820s, was postmaster at Pace's Ferry, and moved to Vinings in 1839. On July 17, 1864 Union troops drove off Confederate pickets and laid two pontoon bridges here for the XIV and XX Corps.
Today: Paces Ferry Road bridge over the Chattahoochee.
