Confederate Arsenal (Walton & Peachtree)
The Confederate arsenal stood at the northwest corner of Walton and Peachtree streets, one of several war industries that made Atlanta a target.
The record
Atlanta's war industry included the arsenal, the rolling mill, which rolled armor plate and rails, a Confederate pistol factory, the Naval Ordnance Works (gun carriages and 7-inch shells), the Atlanta Machine Works, whose cannon were rifled at the Western & Atlantic roundhouse, and the Winship and other foundries. Whatever remained of these plants was burned or razed by Poe's engineers in November. The corner is downtown commercial land.
