Five Points artesian well
A deep well and water-storage tank that stood in the middle of Five Points in the 1880s. The Five Points Monument recalls the vanished tower.
The record
A Vanishing Georgia photograph record in the Digital Library of Georgia describes the 'artesian well and water storage tank located at Peachtree and Marietta Streets,' drilled in 1884 and used until 1893, the year the Chattahoochee system opened. Wikipedia's Five Points article instead says the city's water system began in 1875 with three artesian wells at Five Points, which conflicts with the documented 1875 Lakewood reservoir. George Beasley's Five Points Monument, on the triangle in the intersection, alludes to the water tower that once stood there.
