Attack from the west on Leggett's Hill
Maney's division attacked the front of Giles Smith's line while Cleburne hit its rear; Stevenson's division joined from the city, but the XVII Corps held Leggett's Hill.
The record
Forced back from Flat Shoals Rd, Giles Smith's division formed a second line on the south slope of Leggett's Hill, running east from Leggett's position. Attacks came from front, flank and rear by three Confederate divisions, and Smith reported opposing flags meeting 'on the opposite sides of the same works'. Most of the hill is now highway interchange and developed land, and what is left is right-of-way or private.
