Union Passenger Depot, 'the Car Shed' (1853)
Edward A. Vincent's union depot opened in 1853 in the middle of State Square and served all four railroads that met in Atlanta. It was destroyed in November 1864.
The record
Wikipedia locates it where Wall Street now runs between Pryor Street and Central Avenue and lists the Atlanta & LaGrange, Georgia, Macon & Western and Western & Atlantic railroads. A George N. Barnard photograph at the Library of Congress shows its ruins in November 1864. Atlanta's 1871 Union Station was built on the site. An 1864 map in the Library of Congress is titled as drawn 'from Vincent's subdivision map' of the city.
