Cheatham's corps attacks along the Georgia Railroad

See it on the map All Civil War records

What happened

Hood watched from the second story of the James E. Williams house, on ground now in Oakland Cemetery, as Brown's and Clayton's divisions of his old corps went out astride the railroad. Manigault's brigade broke through at the unguarded railroad cut by the Troup Hurt house, taking the guns there and DeGress's four 20-pounder Parrotts. Benton's and Coltart's brigades drove out Williams's and Oliver's brigades of Harrow's division, displacing four Federal brigades on a half-mile front.
