Site of the Pope house
A two-story white house, said to be the Widow Pope's, from whose upper floor men of the 19th South Carolina fired into the Federal batteries at the railroad cut.
The record
Manigault's brigade lost its alignment around the house and outbuildings as it advanced on the Troup Hurt house. While it re-formed, men of the 19th South Carolina climbed to the second floor and fired into the guns at the cut. The 10th and 19th South Carolina, with the 28th Alabama, then broke through at the cut and turned left onto the DeGress battery. The site is opposite the Inman Park MARTA station.
