Cleburne and Maney roll up the XVII Corps flank

What happened

Cleburne's brigades (Govan's, Smith's Texans, Lowrey's) came up on and east of Flat Shoals Rd and Maney's four brigades west of it. They struck Giles Smith's division where its line along Flat Shoals Rd hooked east at Glenwood, and swept it north. Govan reported the fight began at 1 p.m.; his Arkansans took a battery of six Napoleons and two guns on the road, and most of the 16th Iowa was captured.
